Today our protagonist is not a fountain pen,it is a “Dip pen” from the american H.M.Smith…
…Horace M. Smith could have been one of the most famous jeweler of his time,had it not been for his association with A.G.Bagley,this is not favored him because he was sued by his partner by default in the 1860′s,and this situation overshadowed his success.
H.M.Smith regained its importance as a manufacturer in 1880,when he produced various “Dip Pen”,as our protagonist.Its stores began to distribute the best brands of the time,being the first representative in New York of the well known Wirt.
Our “Dip pen”is made in ebonite and his closed size ,only 63 mm.with a weights in 12g.Its compact design,has three parts,the first is body with the name of the brand”H.T.Smith&Co”,the second is a part as am extension body,topped by a “sphere”engraved by hand.
The third section is moving by the guides we see in his body.and allows to extract the nib ,in solid gold and where appears the engrave “H.M.Smith$ Co NEWYORK Nº 3″,and so ,the fountain pen has 129 mm.long.
If we turn the final section of the body ,we discover a pen out of his interior.
These writing instruments,with the special magic, the perfect execution and the long existence , surprised when they still work as in their first day.
